Thinking
I’m having the sort of week where it’s very difficult to just be, well, alive. And because the writing isn’t coming as easily as it should, I dug up a poem I wrote a little while ago and begged my friend S. A, to help me rewrite it. This is what we came up with.
Why we came
This is why we came
To take as much from life as we can
This is why we came
To live in every way
Or, at least, in more than just one.
This is why we came
For joy, despite sadness.
For laughter, despite tears
This is why we came
For the profound, balanced by the mundane
For the fool and the magician both.
To speed through the heavens, taking only what we need
And if we need, to take everything.
To touch and grow
To fight, but never to lose
To laugh, even though we may cry too
To love, even though we may lose to it.
To dream dreams that may never come alive
To wait till the end, to wish we could do it all again.
This is why we came
To love and then leave
To hurt and then flee
To break and to break
Sometimes others
And sometimes ourselves
To set fires
And then dance in the flames.
This is why we came
To laugh with and laugh at.
To laugh, so we do not cry.
To touch and see and smell and feel
To bask in the beauty of ourselves
And the beauty of others
For love, and for lust as well.
To rise, and hope to never fall.
To live, and hope to regret nothing at all.
This is why we came.
Watching
Sex Education - The third season of Sex Education gives everything it is supposed to give, so if you’ve never seen the show, fix that and if you haven’t seen the new season, fix that. Random, but the Nigerian wedding episode was everything. Did I already say watch it? Yes, do that.
The Smart Money Woman - If you want to laugh and watch really, really good acting, this will do it for you. I’m not sure anyone should take money advice from the show sha because the amounts they were calling and the life they were living had me like this guy right here.
Reading
I tried but I just couldn’t read anything this week.
Listening
This week, I listened to a lot of music so I decided to make a playlist of the songs I had on repeat that were basically food for my brain. I hope you find at least one song that feeds your brain too.
Remembering
“Don't assume, ask. Be kind. Tell the truth. Don't say anything you can't stand behind fully. Have integrity. Tell people how you feel.” - Warsan Shire.
the end.
